Dear Parents and Friends,
It gives us great pleasure to announce and introduce Carey Logan, AMI teacher, and skilled administrator, as the new Director for our school. Carey will be taking the reins July 1, as Gail and her husband, Davey, move to Bergamo Montessori in Sacramento, CA, where Gail will serve as Head of School.
Early in her teaching career, Carey served as our physical education teacher and, when her gifts and talents were recognized, she gladly accepted the Northwood’s sponsorship and completed the vigorous AMI Elementary Teacher Training in Washington, DC. Upon her return to Atlanta, she continued a long and joyful career as an Upper Elementary teacher at Northwoods.
Known as a teacher with an exuberance for learning with her students, and for setting high expectations, Carey, an avid outdoors person, developed the Going Out program to include extended overnight excursions including camping and hiking, and eventually, an annual 72-mile Silver Comet bicycle trek and camping trip. A musician with a love for the theater, Carey coached students in several student-directed theatrical productions.
Assuming the role of an unofficial master of ceremonies, Carey often circulated around the campus greeting and welcoming students and their families, providing the social “glue” that helped our collegial culture and school community develop.
Since leaving Northwoods, Carey has distinguished herself in the administration of Atlanta Montessori International School (AMIS). Serving as the Upper School Coordinator her responsibilities included mentoring students, teachers and support staff, managing multiple classroom budgets, partnering with parents to provide support and parent education programs, training teachers to design and implement day and overnight learning expeditions, and serving as liaison between lead teachers at the Primary, Elementary and Junior High levels.
This school year, Carey served as the AdvancED/SACS Compliance Facilitator, shepherding AMIS and its stakeholders through the stringent, and rewarding accreditation process, including the design of a five-year school improvement plan.
Active in our local, state and national Montessori communities, Carey is on the board, as treasurer, of the Montessori Administrators of Georgia. She continues to support the local grassroots AMI teachers’ gatherings, training centers, has presented at AMI Elementary Alumni Association, summer workshops, and is a member of the Montessori Administrators’ Association, and North American Montessori Teachers’ Association.
A strong believer in giving back to the local community, Carey regularly volunteers with the Norcross Co-op, Family Promise and Action Ministry Atlanta.
We are excited about Carey’s return to our school. During the month of June, she will spend quality time with the administration in preparation for assuming her new role.
Carey is ready to infuse new energy and know-how into our community’s long-range vision and dreams. We know you will be glad, as we are, to see Carey and hope that you will help us welcome her home to Northwoods Montessori School with open arms.
