Tour the Primary Class

3 to 6 years old

This video was created during the mask mandate season of the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, masks are a choice for parents and students.

Primary

  • Desire for Consistency
Primary aged children learn through repetition, and our classrooms are organized for this. Children are shown how to locate and replace lesson materials as a way to take ownership of their learning.
  • Mixed Ages
Children get the opportunity to both learn from and teach their peers. This deepens their knowledge and understanding of the lessons they learn from the teachers.
  • Grace and Courtesy
Montessori education provides a child-centric approach to writing, reading and mathematics. But, teachers also model behaviors of self awareness, impulse control, and empathy toward others to help children acquire these important social skills.

Classrooms are configured to allow children the space and freedom to move, work at desks, or on floor mats.

During their time in Primary, children experience an explosion of language and communication - speaking, writing, and reading.

The Primary classroom has lessons that spark curiosity from many different subjects: geography, music, and even practical life.

Classroom materials help develop fine-motor movements, concentration, hand-eye coordination, and visual perception.

Teachers break down reading and writing into accessible components.  For example, children lay out letters to phonetically spell words.

Our beautiful classrooms will spark your child's curiosity. But, more than that, they are designed to render the growing child independent of the adult.
